Description

• Makes the play enjoyable and accessible to all young people
• Ideal for both study and performance
• Provides an indispensable introduction to Shakespeare

Help students to encounter the wonder of Shakespeare's magical island and its inhabitants with this beautifully illustrated version. Combining a shortened original text with links by modern narrators allows students to follow the story without interruption.

Colour photographs from a variety of productions show how directors have visualised the characters and aid students' own interpretations: how much of a monster is Caliban? what sort of magical creature is Ariel?

Two modern narrators provide background information, guidance and clarification of events. Their dialogue (clearly marked in the text as not being part of Shakespeare's play) summarises the action and prepares students for what is going to happen, taking them through the twists and turns of the plot and supporting their understanding of the original text.

Comments

"An excellent adaptation ... superb colour photographs from various modern productions on virtually every page. The effect of the abridgement is to clarify plot, the power of the poetry is not reduced"

The School Librarian

"You’ve done a super job with it – it’s a brilliant series and very accessible. Just what schools need to bring one of the more difficult plays of the Bard into the 21st Century"

Geoff Dubber, SLA
