Colour photographs from a variety of productions demonstrate the dilemmas caused by mis-matched pairings, the tricks which puncture Malvolio's vain aspirations and the (more or less) happy ending when all is resolved. The twists and turns of the plot become much clearer when students can see how others have visualised them.
An old sea captain acts as a narrator, providing background information, guiding students and clarifying events. His addresses to the audience (clearly marked in the text as not being part of Shakespeare's play) explain things that would not be immediately obvious, supporting their understanding and enjoyment of the original text.
